Why Is Patriot Act Getting Cancelled by Netflix?
“Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj”, an American talk show, is getting cancelled from production after running 6 seasons on Netflix, with the final season having run the summer of 2020.
We have had to announce the cancellations of numerous events and championships, and closings of stores over the past many months, but this is a cancellation of another kind – one where it won’t take place the next year because “Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj” seems to have run its course, or at least just on Netflix (we hope).
Hasan Minhaj posted on his IG this week to let fans and critics alike know that his American talk show would be coming to a close after running for 6 seasons. The first episode titled “Saudi Arabia” came out on October 28th, 2018, with the final episode airing on June 27th, 2020 this summer.
He captioned the post saying, “What a run. @patriotact has come to an end. I got the chance to work with the best writers, producers, researchers, and animators in the game. My 2 babies were born and grew up with the show. It’s a time I’ll never forget. Thank you to @Netflix and everyone who watched. I’ll miss the show, but I hear there’s a British guy who has one that is quite similar 😎.”
Hasan Minhaj began his comic career during college after being inspired by Chris Rock’s “Never Scared” and won his first “Best Comic Standing” award by Wild 94.9 in 2008. Over time, he worked with “The Daily Show” from 2014 to 2018, working on documentaries and films in between as well. Minhaj has won 6 awards including 2 Peabody Awards, 2 Webby’s, and the honor of being on Time’s “100 Most Influential People” list.
His show, “Patriot Act”, explored global political landscapes and modern culture as well as global obesity, the Indian elections, mental health, and hip-hop music among numerous other topics.
According to a Forbes source, Netflix cancelled the show based on viewing vs. cost and decided that due to the talk show’s struggle for success, it could not be renewed.
