Blue Ivy Carter Narrates First Audiobook
In August 2019, an animated short film with American origins was released by Sony Pictures Animation called “Hair Love” with writing and direction by Matthew A. Cherry and co-production by Karen Rupert Toliver. The same year in May, the book was published by Penguin Random House. The animation won the Academy Award for the Best Animation Short Film and went on to gain praise, love, and hope all around the world. In fact, it even got fathers and daughters to recreate the scenes from the film, often with a hard copy of the book showcased in the photographs.
Now, over a year later, the audiobook for Matthew A. Cherry’s “Hair Love” has been released by Dreamscape Media, LLC where Blue Ivy Carter narrates the story on November 9th, 2020, as announced by the writer on his personal Instagram below:
Blue is the eldest daughter of black musical icons Beyonce Knowles-Carter and Jay-Z (Shawn Corey Carter). Blue Ivy is an American singer and has worked on the Lion King album with her mother as well as collaborating on “Brown Skin Girl” alongside Beyoncé, WizKid and Saint Jhn. She won the BET Her Award and the NAACP Image Award in 2020 for this song. What is even more iconic is that she has achieved all of this by the age of 8 years old.
Hair Love is the story of a father-daughter duo where the father, Stephan must do his daughter Zuri’s hair for the first time. It celebrates present fathers and aims to shun the stereotype set by society about absent black fathers.
The author and director of the short animated film, book, and audiobook, Matthew A. Cherry is a former American football player and now an American film producer, director, writer, and producer. He has written and directed two independent films, “The Last Fall” and “9 Rides” and is known best for his work on “Hair Love”.
