Artist Shoutout: Tatsuya Tanaka
Today, we at Media Quotient Inc. are excited to give a shoutout to Japanese miniature artist Tanaka Tatsuya whose work depicts diorama-style figures in a daily environment using everyday objects like bottle caps, shoes, and even toys (besides the figures).
Tatsuya Tanaka is a Japanese miniature artist born in Kumamoto and hailing from Kagoshima, Japan. In 2011, he started his miniaturised art series titled “Miniature Calendar”, from the fact that he posts a piece of work and its corresponding Behind-The-Scenes videos on his website and SNS (social networking service) pages on a daily basis.
One of his recent works from August 16th depicts a summer day at the pool with a man filling a bottle-cap pool with water from a pipe connected to a horizontally laid plastic water bottle. In the miniaturized pool sit two young boys with a dog standing nearby and a woman sitting on a blanket under a mask-tent.
His work has recently been featured in two international magazines. These include his feature in the V Magazine’s “Gigi Journal Part II” that presents “a medley of innovative art and fresh perspectives”. For the journal, Tanaka uses images and motifs connected with the COVID pandemic such as medical workers, masks, and situations uniquely characteristic to the year 2020. Another more recent feature appears in the New York Times for an August 19th “At Home Newsletter” article by Melissa Kirsch.
Don’t forget to check out some of Tanaka’s other works at his Miniature Calendar website or his social pages!
