The 4th Monte Carlo Gala
The Fourth Annual Monte Carlo Gala for Planetary Health was held last week on Thursday, September 24th, 2020 at the Terraces of the Opera Garnier in the principality city-state of Monaco, also known as the Opéra de Monte-Carlo. This year’s Gala was dedicated to raising support for the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and was organized by Prince Albert II and his wife Princess Charlene of Monaco with support from Mr. Milutin Gatsby, the Chairman of Global Fundraising. The event was hosted by Dame Helen Mirren, Kate Beckinsale, Andy Garcia, the Masters of Ceremony for the evening.
The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, or the “Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco” in their national French language name, is a charity organization that has donated millions for several environmental projects. This year’s Gala, the fourth of its annual kind, was set to raise support for the Monaco foundation for their Initiatives for Ocean, Earth and Humanity. The Monte Carlo Red Cross was also recognized for their Humanitarian Efforts.
Amongst the hundreds of attendees including actors, singers, and artists were some of the industries’ well-known names such as Chris Tucker, Jane Seymour, Robin Thicke, Gwen Stefani, Andy Garcia, Uma Thurman, Sibylle Szaggars Redford, Robert Redford, Nicole Kidman, Milutin Gatsby, Patricia Arquette, Isabeli Fontana, Ana Beatriz Barros, Katy Perry, Robert Davi, Madcon, Isabeli Fontana, and of course, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco.
One of the world’s favorite musical geniuses of the era, Sting headlined the event as the musical artist of the evening.
Earlier this year, HSH Prince Albert II had contracted the coronavirus on March 19th, 2020. He self-quarantined at his apartment upon receiving the results and began working from home. By the end of the month, it was announced that he had been cleared of the disease, and he switched to quarantining with his family.
The idea behind the Monte Carlo Gala which was held for the fourth time as an annual event this year is to join forces in support of the sciences, arts, cinema, music, and fashion industries to bridge the gap between health, environment, and the year’s chosen foundation’s initiatives. This year’s organization was the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation which focuses on funding the support for “recent global catastrophes, sea level rise, the ice melt in polar regions and the glaciers accelerating the level of green gases, plastic pollution, the depletion of biodiversity on land and at sea, the destruction of natural habitats and forests, the spread of livestock diseases and education of communities to prevent a return to ‘‘business as usual’’ following the pandemic.”
