Who are MTV’s 2020 GOATs?
The MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest of All Time 2020 were held for the first time this year on December 6th, 2020 with hosting by High School Musical’s Vanessa Hudgens. The Special edition awards show was held instead of the usual annual MTV awards show due to the pandemic to highlight and honour actors and actresses from the 1980s until the current era who are still considered the Greatest of All Time or the GOATs in their fields.
Instead of a nominations announcement much prior to the show itself, this year, the MTV chose to keep the nominees or honourees’ names under wraps, announcing them only during the socially-distanced ceremony with many people choosing to stream in virtually. The show included a special tribute to Chadwick Boseman, made by Don Cheadle and Robert Downey Jr. through virtual stream-ins to the show. Meanwhile, Hudgens experienced being slimed in blood-coloured goo for the first time – an honour she revealed she has always wanted to receive!
The GOAT Dance Your A** Off honour was awarded to Kevin Bacon for his original performance in the 1984 version of ‘Footloose’.
Funny man Kevin Hart became the recipient for the GOAT Comedy Giant award and rightfully so!
Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler won the GOAT Dynamic Duo award for their amazing chemistry and performances in ‘The Wedding Singer’, ‘50 First Dates’, and ‘Blended’.
Jamie Lee Curtis was awarded the GOAT Scream Queen honour.
Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair locked lips through a social-distancing glass over an MTV GOAT Award golden popcorn trophy in reminiscence for their ‘Cruel Intentions’ performance that won them their GOAt Legendary Lip Lock award.
Jason Segel and Kristen Bell were honored with the GOAT Heartbreaking Break-Up award for their gut-wrenching chemistry in ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’.
William Zabka rose to fame for his martial arts performances as Johnny Lawrence, Karate Kid and Cobra Kid, winning him the GOAT Zero to Hero award.
Gal Gadot, the world’s favorite Wonder Woman became a recipient for the GOAT She-Ro award.
Lastly, and most importantly, Chadwick Boseman was posthumously awarded the GOAT Hero for the Ages award by his ‘Avengers’ co-stars Don Cheadle and Robert Downey Jr. who streamed into the show virtually.
Congratulations to all winners and honored actors in the industry!
