The Coolest Girl in Hollywood

The December 2020/January 2021 issue of the USA magazine of ELLE features Zendaya as the Coolest Girl in Hollywood, the Best Thing to Happen to Hollywood, and Emmy’s Youngest Outstanding Drama Lead Actress for HBO’s Euphoria, all while being a 24-year-old woman of colour, actress and singer! If there’s one thing we know, it is that this doesn’t even begin to describe the achievements of this stunning, powerful, and talented woman who just wants to visit museums to learn random facts.

Released on November 10th, 2020 on their official website, the ELLE interview of American actress and singer Zendaya covers everything from quarantined filmmaking and the Black Lives Matter Movement, to sharing information with younger people about voting for the US elections that have yet to get fully wrapped up somehow. What makes this interview even more exciting is the fact that it is led by her Dune co-star, American actor Timothée Chalamet who lets readers get insight into their dance parties on the set of the film that was under production last year in 2019.The interview kicks off with Chalamet congratulating the 24-year-old Emmy winner on her victory with her role as Rue in Euphoria, discussing what was happening behind-the-scenes with the hazmat suit-clad award-distributors. The discussion on the Zoom Live award-ceremony continued for a while with the two actors talking about the home-based photography process, the custom Armani Privé dress Zendaya got to wear for the Emmys, and most importantly, her acceptance speech about being honest about hopelessness, exhaustion, and embracing joy as a Black person living in the United States of America during this era.

That led to a shift in conversation towards film and drama productions, working with Sam Levinson on Euphoria and an upcoming quarantine movie Malcolm and Marie, and the December 2020 Christmas special lined up for Euphoria. Zendaya had nothing but praises to sing about her Malcolm and Marie co-star John David Washington, and Marcell Rév, the cinematographer behind the two projects.

The interview closed off with an open-ended question aimed by Chalamet towards Zendaya on travel and the possibilities of returning to what used to be a “normal” routine before the coronavirus pandemic. While Zendaya reiterated the importance of understanding and accepting that a new normal is all there is visible for the future, she did say how she misses traveling for work and press tours. However, it feels like what she misses most is visiting museums whenever she is traveling: “You get all this information, and you go home and you start telling people random things like, “Did you know that this was built and….” I just love having random facts.”
