Period Products Now Free in Scotland
Earlier this year on February 25th, 2020, the “Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Bill” passed the first of its three stages with a historic unanimous vote of 112-0 at the Scotland Parliament. After that, it was only a matter of time until all three stages would be cleared and the European country of Scotland would legally make all period products freely available with general obtainability in educational institutes and public restrooms to improve the quality of life for all women and remove the burden and stress of purchasing and looking for sanitary products when in need.
That's right, Scotland has become the first country in the world to make period products free for all 💪 Because in Scotland, we believe it’s fundamental to dignity, equality and human rights 💃💙 #ScotlandIsNow #FreePeriods pic.twitter.com/kCdrzm0sBX

As of this week, the Bill finally reached the final stage and has been fully implemented in Scotland with period products free for all with the belief backing the Bill that “dignity, equality and human rights” are fundamental to their country.
The Bill was first initiated by Monica Lennon, a Scottish Parliament member who first proposed it in 2017. As of now, this has become a universal success for all those who get their period, use sanitary products, and have been campaigning for free period products – it means that there is hope for other countries as well since it takes one step to cause the butterfly effect that brings about a well-needed revolution. It is Ms. Lennon’s hope that the new Bill and its legislation will “guarantee rights, ensure that current initiatives continue in future on a universal basis, and will help us achieve period dignity for all.” The Scottish government’s estimate for the Bill and the accompanying expenditure is rated at about £24 million (~ $31 million) annually.
Congratulations to all those who use period products in Scotland! Here’s to hoping for a better future in all other countries too!
