Meet Pakistan’s first ever African-descent lawmaker

Tanzeela Qambrani has made her mark in history, she’s become the first-ever African descent assembly member in Pakistan.

Qambrani was elected by Pakistan People’s Party and is now a part of the Sindh provincial assembly.

She belongs to the Sheedi community, an East African community that moved to Pakistan during the colonial era.

For decades Qambrani’s community has been ignored and neglected, mainly because of their dark skin tone and African heritage, but there’s no denying the Sheedi community is just as much Pakistani as the rest of the population.

Hopefully with Qambrani’s revolutionary move into the assembly, her community will finally get the recognition it deserves.
