Mariah Carey’s Miscarriage & Ellen’s Behaviour Towards Her Pregnancy
In 2008, Mariah Carey gave an interview at the world renowned American comedian’s talk show “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” that was followed closely by the award-winning musician miscarrying her pregnancy. Now, Carey has revealed in this Vulture magazine interview that Ellen violated the basic courtesy that is granted to women during their pregnancies.
Over the past few months, employees and teams of numerous companies and television shows have been outing their workplaces for their toxic cultures, and ruined lifestyles and mental health. One such employee team was the one for The Ellen DeGeneres Show, with people revealing that working with the show had been toxic for them in terms of experiencing “fear, racism, and a general disregard for their health and well-being” according to a Refinery29 article.
In the process, a video of one of Ellen and Mariah Carey’s interviews from 2008 resurfaced, with Ellen visibly bullying the musician for not revealing her pregnancy. Ellen has been known to be brutal with celebrities, often attacking them as a “funny bit”, rarely taking their reaction into consideration. In the Vulture interview, Carey revealed that she felt uncomfortable while being badgered by DeGeneres when she would not reveal whether she was pregnant or not. While this would not have been so negatively effecting for Carey, the fact that she miscarried her pregnancy soon after the interview is what stuck with the singer and caused her increased trauma. DeGeneres had brought out sparkling champagne to get Carey to prove a lack of a pregnancy, and exclaimed “You’re pregnant!” when the singer took a tiny sip from the flute glass.
Carey is now writing a memoir that is to be published soon. Keep an eye out for it!
