Is this the end of Pakistani dramas?

What ever happened to the thriving, brave and creative drama industry of Pakistan?

Not too long ago, we were in the prime of our creativity; our stories were brave, thought-provoking and enjoyable. Sadly, now all we see on TV are brutal mother-in-laws, deranged sisters and nasty nands.\

So where are the amazing writers of Mera Sultan, Dolly Ki Ayegi Baraat and Dastaan? Because all we see on TV now is recycled Star-Plus gimmicks.

But perhaps, there’s a ray of hope in the near future; the industry is buzzing with content desperate for a medium. Pakistan’s very own streaming service is long overdue now, and it seems like we might just be getting it soon.

Mahira Khan recently announced her web series ‘Baarwan Khiladi’ starring a young and talented ensemble; even actress Mashal Khan is doing an interesting project with UrduFlix.

Maybe, just maybe, we might be able to channel our creativity on the OTT platform; like India has managed to do recently.

The soapy vamps and domestic victims won’t be leaving our TV screens anytime soon, but perhaps we can find our ‘Churails’ and other charismatic stories online.
