Google Celebrates Bano Qudsia’s 92nd Birthday
Bano Qudsia, born Qudsia Chattha, was a Pakistani novelist who was born today on November 28th, 2020 in the city of Firozpur, British India. She passed away just over three years ago on February 4th, 2017 at the age of 88 in Lahore, Pakistan. Known as “Bano Aapa” (Elder Sister) and “Bano Qudsia”, the novelist is known best for her Urdu and Punjabi classic literature, playwriting, and spiritualism. On the occasion of her birthday, Google is paying tribute to her with a lovely Doodle.
Bano Qudsia is one of those rare few novelists and writers whose work transcends time and space and is appreciated and celebrated by people of all ages. She is known for her messages of love and hope in her works. Her most famous works include “Aadhi Baat” (Half Talk, 1968), a television play, and “Raja Gidh” (The Vulture King, 1981), a novel. She wrote in both the Urdu and Punjabi languages for the stage and for television plays.
Today, we honour and celebrate a legendary writer for her significant contribution to the world of literature, forming and refining its landscape in Pakistan.
Bano Qudsia received multiple awards during her lifetime. These include the “Sitara-e-Imtiaz” (Star of Excellence) that was awarded by the Government of Pakistan in 1983. Then in 2010, she was awarded the “Hilal-e-Imtiaz” (Crescent of Excellence) for her literary services. Just 2 years later in 2012, she was awarded the “Kamal-e-Fun Award”, a lifetime achievement award by the Pakistan Academy of Letters. In 2016, the Government College University’s Old Ravians Union and the Pakistan Life Care Foundation separately granted her two lifetime achievement awards.
