Facebook Signs Two New Renewable Energy Deals

The Californian social media giant, Facebook, Inc. has signed two new renewable power contracts within the month of August for their Illinois and Tennessee offices, one with Apex Clean Energy and another with Silicon Ranch.

Facebook, Inc. signed two new contracts to add to their constantly growing solar transformations across the United States of America.

The first is the deal they signed with Apex Clean Energy for their Lincoln Land Wind Project on August 6th, 2020 for 170 MW of renewable power. The second is their latest project with TVA, the Tennessee Valley Authority for a 70 MW project with Silicon Ranch.

The former deal with Apex/Lincoln will now be the largest renewable contract the solar company has signed within the state of Illinois and is expected to go live in 2021, while the latter deal with Silicon/TVA is expected to go live by the autumn of 2022.

The Silicon Valley social media company, Facebook has also announced that they plan on converting all of their energy operations into solar or other renewable energy options by the end of the current year, 2020.

The Head of Renewable Energy at Facebook, Urvi Parekh stated, “We are thrilled to partner with Apex once again to bring an additional 170 MW of new renewable energy to the grid… With our recent announcement of our new data center in DeKalb, we are excited to bring renewable energy to Illinois.”

The President and CEO of their renewable operations supplier Apex Clean Energy for the Chicago project, Mark Goodwin stated, “Apex has a strong track record in enabling corporate clean energy procurement, and we’re excited that the Lincoln Land Wind PPA results in Facebook becoming our largest partner to date.”

Parekh also stated, “The nearly 450MW of new solar energy we are developing with TVA is an important part of our goal to support our global operations with 100% renewable energy.”

Meanwhile, the Co-Founder and CEO of their renewable supplier Silicon Ranch for the Tennessee project, Reagan Farr said, “We’ve been proud to partner with Facebook to supply renewable energy to its state-of-the-art data centre in Georgia, and today we’re thrilled to support Facebook’s operations right here in the Valley.”
