Chadwich Boseman (Black Panther) Dead at 43

American actor Chadwich Boseman, who portrayed King T’Challa aka. Black Panther in the 2018 black superhero action film, passed away on August 28th, 2020 at 43 years of age. He passed away after 4 years of battling colon cancer.

Chadwick Boseman began his acting career in 2003 with a television show role in a “Third Watch” episode, followed by working on Law & Order, CSI:NY, and ER. He won 4 awards in his lifetime for his work as portraying the first black superhero lead actor King T’Challa in “Black Panther” (2018). These include MTV’s Best Performance in a Movie and Best Hero awards followed by the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Cast Performance in a Motion Picture, and the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture.

Chadwick Boseman had been privately dealing through his battle with stage III colon cancer since his 2016 diagnosis which progressed to stage IV by 2019. Despite going through surgeries and chemotherapy, Boseman continued to act for several films. He passed away yesterday after struggling with the disease. His social media statement announcing the actor’s death reads:

“It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman.⁣ Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016 and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV. A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. ⁣It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther. He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side. ⁣The family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

Boseman is survived by his recently married wife Taylor Simone Ledward (m. 2019).
