Zendaya on the Cover of InStyle Magazine
American actress and singer Zendaya was interviewed for the September issue of InStyle magazine by Patrisse Cullors, appearing on the cover and in the article wearing snazzy and vibrant outfits.
Patrisse Cullors, the Co-Founder of the #BLMMovement interviewed Zendaya, discussing filmmaking during quarantine, the Black Lives Matter movement, Zendaya and her niece’s activism, and anxiety.
According to the interview between Zendaya and Cullors, Zendaya considers herself first a creative before self-recognizing as an activist because according to the actress and singer, activism is a lot bigger ‘because it is a responsibility she doesn’t take lightly.’ When asked about quarantining and the movement getting sparked by the George Floyd murder at the hands of the police, Zendaya expressed how it has been difficult and emotional, and that remaining creative in such a time as this is a challenge even for people like her. While she tried her hand at painting and then at working out, the thing that seemed to work better for her was learning the piano.

During the interview, the actress also revealed her admiration for Cullors and the work she has been doing with the community, saying, “If I were under half of that emotional stress, nobody would hear from me.”
Upon that response, Cullors sparked a conversation on mental health. Zendaya revealed that she too went through her own struggles, remembering panicking over tests as a child and over a project rejection when she was 16. She has not yet been able to control the anxiety yet, and often gets help from her mother.
If you are facing mental health issues, visit your nearest psychologist. Remember: acceptance is the first step towards recovery.
