Winner of the Nitto ATP Finals 2020

The Nitto Tires title-sponsored ATP Finals 2020 professional tennis tournament wrapped up on Sunday, November 2020 at The Centre Court of The Championships, Wimbledon in London with Daniil Medvedev’s singles final victory against Dominic Thiem. The Russian tennis professional Medvedev scored 4-7(7)-6 with 115 points against Austrian professional Thiem’s 6-6(2)-4 and 112 points.

Victor of the match, Daniel Medvedev is a World No. 4 ranking ATP singles tennis professional (title achieved on September 9th, 2019) and No. 170 ranking doubles professional (title achieved in August 2019). He has 9 ATP singles titles to his name including the ATP Finals 2020 title and 3 Masters 1000 titles. His opponent, Thiem obtained a World No. 3 singles ranking on March 2nd, 2020 and No. 67 doubles ranking on October 7th, 2019.

After the match, as Medvedev walked over to accept his victor’s title trophy, his demeanor remained unchanged and rather uncelebratory, regardless of the fact that it was “the best victory” of his life. While this may seem odd and a put off to viewers, we do have a reasoning by the winner for such a non-reaction to such a massive win. The 24-year-old Russian professional says “That is going to be my thing” when referring to not celebrating his victories. Medvedev said after the match, “In tennis I think I probably am the first one, definitely in football I have seen players who do not celebrate… I decided during the US Open when I had tough time with the crowd… I don’t celebrate my victories. That is my thing and I like it.”

Regardless of Medvedev’s reaction and lack of celebration on court that day, his opponent just today tweeted his congratulations for the winner, thanking him for the play 2 days ago:

Congratulations to the winner of the Nitto ATP Finals 2020!
