Stanford PhD Chemistry Researcher Goes on Strike

A graduate Ph.D. researcher in Chemistry at Stanford University, Taylor Jones IV announced on August 28th that he has decided to go on strike because of the BLM movement and the attacks on Black lives.

Taylor Jones IV is a Ph.D. graduate research candidate at Stanford University and is currently the president of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE) for the Stanford chapter from 2019 to 2021. On August 28th, he decided that he had had enough of the internalised racism in the wake of the attacks on people in the Black community and the BLM movement, and announced that he was going on strike.

In the thread, the Black Chemist and researcher gives multiple reasons for going on strike including, “…watching attacks on Black lives and blocking them out” so that he can work on his research, “constantly facing microagressions [sic] from people I looked up to and no one having the time or energy to call them out on it.”

He ends the thread by saying, “If not me, then who? If not now, then when?”
