Sia’s Directorial Debut Film Sparks Major Outrage
Acclaimed singer, Sia, made her directorial debut this year with ‘Music’.
The musical-drama starring Kate Hudson and Maddie Ziegler, focuses on an autistic girl and her journey through music.
Even before the film’s release, Sia’s choice of casting a non-autistic person as the lead was met with harsh criticism.
The film was released on 12th February 2021; garnering terrible reviews from critics and filmgoers alike.
The autism community also criticized Sia’s insensitive portrayal of autism, even going as far as calling it “dangerous” for autistic people.
With many people calling ‘Music’ tone-deaf and the worst film of the year, Sia still seems to be content and unapologetic about her directorial debut.
