One Million Moms On Agenda Against LGBTQ+ Campaigns

American Christian fundamentalist organization One Million Moms has been coming after companies against their marketing campaigns with LGBTQIA+ elements, and it only made the news because they are coming after one of the modern community’s biggest gay icons, Jonathan Van Ness from “Queer Eye” and “Gay of Thrones”!

One Million Moms is a Christian organization formed under the wing of the American Family Association with a hell-bent but alas weak goal of eliminating “the presence of gays and lesbians from the public eye” and the exploitation of their children. Over the past few months, especially since June, the month of annual and international Gay Pride, OMM has been targetting companies against their marketing campaigns that have any LGBTQIA+ elements in hopes of the removal of the campaign, bringing an end to the campaign’s funding, and ending shows with gay elements, to name a few.

Recently, OMM has targeted Uber Eats, claiming that the food delivery company is “glamorizing a LBGTQ lifestyle” with going so far as to say that the company is “attempting to brainwash viewers with an agenda instead of focusing on providing a helpful service”. Their petition against Uber Eats goes on to say, “Instead of making audiences lose their appetite by glamorizing a LGBTQ lifestyle, Uber Eats should focus on what it does and remain neutral on controversial issues.” It seems that their biggest concern is Van Ness’s casting in the campaign, saying that it “screams liberal agenda”, something that is apparently a negative or controversial factor considering that OMM is a conservative group that aims to attack and come after any and every LGBTQIA+ star and character appearing in the public spotlight. Jonathan Van Ness identifies as a non-binary person who uses the he/him/his pronouns and appears in the advertisement alongside American artistic Olympic gold medalist gymnast Simone Biles.

Back in December 2019, OMM went after Hallmark Channel and got them to pull four of their television advertisements featuring a lesbian couple that was shown getting married and kissing. Less than a month ago, they petitioned against Oreo for their PFLAG collaboration “rainbow family” campaign that features a rainbow filling cookie and a  family where parents show their support for their daughter bringing home her girlfriend.
