Kensington Palace’s Marketing Blunder
Every company, brand, and even individual has their specific personality and character traits that are unique to them, including the Kensington Royals. However, Kate Middleton and Prince William, alongside the entire Royals family are facing backlash due to a video posted on their socials pages with Harry Styles’ “Watermelon Sugar” playing in the background, which is being considered a questionable decision made by their marketing department.
On the occasion of the Emergency Services Day, Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge visited Belfast to meet an Emergency team there, give a speech, and even meet a Service Dog. The videos from the entire visit were compiled in the new Reels feature rolled out by Instagram in a limited number of countries around the world into a 15-second compilation.
In the background, English singer-songwriter can be heard singing his double platinum certified pop song “Watermelon Sugar” from Styles’ latest album “Fine Line”. While this may not be such a big deal normally, the song has some obvious sexual connotations, making Royal fans uncomfortable and leading them to question the age of the Kensingtons’ marketing team.
As a song that has become a popular hit among teens and young adults, receiving massive critical acclaim and appreciation across the globe, the song is not meant for professional purposes at all, regardless of their probable attempt at trying to appeal to the younger generations.
