Final Results of the 2020 French Open
The 2020 French Open held annually at the Court Philippe-Chatrier of the Stade Roland Garros wrapped up yesterday with Rafael Nadal taking the trophy for the Men’s Singles, and Iga Świątek winning the first Grand Slam Women’s Singles championship as a Polish tennis player.
The French Open Women’s Single was won by Polish tennis pro Iga Świątek in a two-round match against American Sofia Kenin on Saturday, October 10th, beating her with scores of 6-4 and 6-1, earning 65 points against Kenin’s 42. The Pole is only 19 years old and ranks World No. 48 and World No. 3 amongst teenagers behind Amanda Anisimova and Coco Gauff. This win against Kenin marks her as the first Polish to win a Grand Slam singles championship.
Spanish tennis professional and World No. 2, Rafael Nadal finally came to par against his Men’s Singles finalist opponent, Novak Djokovic on Sunday, October 10th, beating the Serbian tennis pro in a Grand Slam match of 6-0, 6-2, and 7-5, scoring a massive 106 against Djokovic’s 77 points. This win marks the Spaniard’s 20th Grand Slam and his 13th win as a Roland Garros champion. However, neither these two men, nor Roger Federer have been able to beat Serena Williams’ record 23 Slams.
The Women’s Doubles were dominated by Timeo Babos and Kristina Mladenovic on Sunday, October 11th, winning 6-4 and 7-5 against Desirae Krawczyk and Alexa Guarachi, scoring 80 collective points against their opponents’ 71 points.
The Men’s Doubles were won by Andreas Mies and Kevin Krawietz on Saturday, October 10th, winning 6-3 and 7-5 against Mate Pavić and Bruno Soares with 65 game points against their opponents’ 42 points.
Congratulations to this year’s French Open 2020 winners and especially to Rafael and Iga on their individual accomplishments besides the actual tournament wins at Roland Garros.
