The World’s First Barcode Interactive Dessert
Don’t you ever wish you had the perfect soundtrack to go with your food? British self-taught baker and pastry chef Matt Adlard believes so too, and now this may just be possible! His latest invention is the first known dessert with a Spotify barcode that you can scan with your phone or smart device and have the song play along as you enjoy the vanilla sponge, jam, chocolate cremeux sandwich dessert.
As he describes it, the dessert is a multi-layered vanilla sponge which is “layered with raspberry jam, orange and vanilla whipped ganache, chocolate cremeux and a few chocolate decorations on top” that he believes looks quite similar to a sandwich. For the Spotify song barcode, Adlard used the code of WAP by American rapper and songwriter Cardi B which also features Megan Thee Stallion. He uses a cutting machine and his software to separate layers of the barcode and create a stencil for the scannable chocolate ganache that goes on the front of the dessert.
Matt Adlard started his career as ‘Topless Baker’ with channels like Food Network and Tastemade almost 4 years ago, and recently in the past few months changed his brand to his own name ‘Matt Adlard’. He is the son of a Michelin star chef but only discovered his talents and ability to invent and recreate desserts around 2015-16. The 28-year-old pastry chef also gives online baking classes under the banner of ‘Bake It Better’ and is now a judge on Food Network.
You too can follow along with his inventions, testing processes, and his dog Cookie on his website and his instagram.
