Naya Rivera’s Body Found after Boating Accident

Naya Rivera, 33, known best for her role as Santana Lopez in the American musical series ‘Glee’, went missing after a boating accident at Lake Piru, California on Wed, July 8th when her 4-year-old son Josey Dorsey was found sleeping alone on the boat.

What is believed to be her body was discovered by divers and teams floating 35ft to 60ft deep using sonar equipment early on Monday, July 13th. Her last act, as authorities are saying, was to save her son: Josey told rescuers that his mother and he went swimming but she did not return and he saw her disappear under the water’s surface. He was found asleep wearing a life vest on the pontoon boat after it was overdue for return, with another vest lying on the boat.

Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub is ‘confident’ that it is Rivera; her body has been taken to the County Coroner’s Office for dental identification.

This, unfortunately, is just a series of deaths that the Glee cast have encountered, including Cory Monteith (May 1982 – Jul 2013) and Mark Salling (Aug 1982 – Jan 2018) where Cory died from a drug and alcohol overdose and Mark died from asphyxiation by hanging (suicide). However, Rivera’s death is not being ruled self-inflicted; instead, it was an accident after saving her son.

Naya Rivera is survived by Josey Dorsey and her ex-husband, Ryan Dorsey. Her passing has affected cast mates and fans alike.
